Finding New Strength Against PTSD

Retired Army Colonel Don Gagliano, MD, knew something wasn’t right after he came home from Iraq, where he had served as Medical Commander of the 30th Brigade. It took him a long time to seek treatment for PTSD. When he finally did, his doctor recommended Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), a cognitive-behavioral therapy shown to alleviate PTSD and its symptoms by helping patients confront traumatic memories they have been trying to avoid.
