Open to military service members at Fort Cavazos
Are you an active duty service member looking for options in PTSD treatment, hoping to find one that best suits you and your situation? We invite you to consider a clinical trial the STRONG STAR Consortium is conducting at Fort Cavazos.
Led by researchers at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, the trial offers a variety of PTSD treatments that already have been shown effective with military in previous research. Those treatments also can be delivered in different ways (e.g., in person or via telehealth) and at differing frequency (e.g., once weekly for several weeks, daily for one or two weeks) and length (number of sessions varies by treatment and/or patient response).
Prior to treatment, the study team informs participants about the treatment options, then follows a process that allows patients with a strong preference to select their particular treatment and others to identify the treatments to which they are willing to be randomly assigned.
At the end of the study, researchers will evaluate this shared-decision-making model of patient care to determine whether and how it improves recovery rates and patient satisfaction. They’ll also consider how patient preferences, characteristics, and treatment outcomes can be used to guide future efforts in personalized medicine.
