SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 16, 2019) – The nationally renowned Bob Woodruff Foundation, which invests in programs helping impacted veterans, service members and their families thrive, will provide major support for the 2019 San Antonio Combat PTSD Conference as presenting sponsor of the Oct. 23-24 scientific meeting.

Presented by the UT Health San Antonio-led STRONG STAR Consortium and Consortium to Alleviate PTSD (CAP), the annual conference is the only nationwide gathering focused on the state of the science in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of combat-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and related conditions. These invisible wounds of war affect hundreds of thousands of post-9/11 combat veterans.

Finding New Strength Against PTSD

Retired Army Colonel Don Gagliano, MD, knew something wasn’t right after he came home from Iraq, where he had served as Medical Commander of the 30th Brigade. It took him a long time to seek treatment for PTSD. When he finally did, his doctor recommended Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), a cognitive-behavioral therapy shown to alleviate PTSD and its symptoms by helping patients confront traumatic memories they have been trying to avoid.
